Windows Terminalserver
The ZIH offers a Windows terminal server for use in teaching. The server can currently be used by all students and lecturers who have been activated by the Service Desk.
The platform offers the following tools:
- Access to Windows based on a web browser or RDS protocol
- use of Windows-based application software
- free practice
All students and teachers can use the service with the ZIH login. To activate the service lecturers need to send an e-mail to the Service Desk with the following information: name of the course, the name of the teacher, the time of the course and the room, as a licence fee must be paid for the use of the service. The licence fee is paid by the ZIH.
The service is exclusively accessible in the campus network via https://rds.zih.tu-dresden.de/
The offer is free of charge.
Provisioning Time:
Proposed projects are active immediatelly.
Operation time /-status:
The Windows systems need to be updated regularly. For this purpose, they are not accessible from time to time. These service times are visible on the standard background screen.

The software on the system is constantly updated. New software requests must be reported to the Service Desk at least 14 days in advance. Please note that ZIH may only install software on the system that is compatible with the above-mentioned user group in terms of licensing law and that can be run on a terminal server.
Note on data exchange
After logging on to the system, an individual profile is created for all users, which is deleted after one day. This profile contains, for example, the files saved on the desktop.
Please use the ZIH home drive or the ZIH Datashare to save data.
