Topic Overview

NHR@ZIH network

Since 2021, high-performance computing (HPC) at German universities has been structured by the NHR network. This network consists of nine NHR centers, which both operate the high-performance computers and offer a coordinated consulting service on the methodological competence of scientific HPC. The ZIH of the TU Dresden is one of these national NHR centers. The Free State of Saxony and the federal government provide sustained funding for this.

The Service Catalogue gives an overview of the ZIH service offerings. It is closely linked with the Self Service Portal, which offers are aimed at employees and students of the TU Dresden.

Rechenzentrums-Infrastruktur

Die Infrastruktur der beiden Standorte Lehmann-Zentrum (LZR) und Trefftz-Bau (TRE) ist Basis für alle vom ZIH betriebenen IT-Dienste und Hochleistungsrechner.

Software acquisition

The software application strategy of the TU Dresden aims at concentrating resources and acquiring software with research- or country-wide licenses or campus-wide licenses. The central software procurement is dedicated to this task, analysing the demand of system and application software, signing contracts with software providers, providing and distributing the software to the users according to license laws.

Research

The ZIH is firmly embedded in the local research in Saxony, as well as closely linked with national and international scientific institutions and partners from industry and business. Our research is focused on supporting users in optimizing their scientific applications and in the development of new methods.

Services and Research for Science

As a central scientific institution of TU Dresden, ZIH is responsible for the communication infrastructure of the University, and operates its central IT infrastructure, including services and servers. In addition, with its interdisciplinary orientation, ZIH supports other departments and institutions in their research and education for all matters related to information technology and computer science.

The ZIH performs a broad spectrum of research and development work. It is closely linked with national and international scientific institutions and with partners from industry and business. It is integrated into university teaching of the faculty of computer science, and offers comprehensive training opportunities, such as courses, user training, and information sessions. Furthermore, the ZIH offers a three-year apprenticeship as an IT specialist focusing on application development.

Since 2022, ZIH has been a department of the Center For Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences (CIDS).
