DILIGENCE – Digital Literacy Guidance in Teacher Education for Critical Empowerment
Table of contents
In an increasingly digital world, education is key to social participation and sustainable development. This is where the DILIGENCE project comes in: it strengthens the digital skills of teacher educators and teachers in Mozambique, laying the foundation for inclusive, critical and forward-looking teaching.
DILIGENCE (Digital Literacy Guidance in Teacher Education for Critical Empowerment) sees digital education as more than just technical skills. It focuses on helping educators critically reflect on digital tools and use them effectively for inclusive learning. To support this, the project creates connected learning spaces: from online workshops and virtual collaboration to hands-on, in-person events and hybrid winter schools. These formats open up new ways of teaching and learning while building lasting networks.
At the heart of DILIGENCE is a free, multilingual learning platform with flexible, modular content that can be adapted to different needs. Working with strong partners, the project connects regions, languages and education systems, helping to build a sustainable future for digital education in Mozambique.
DILIGENCE Project Partners
DILIGENCE is supported by a strong, internationally connected consortium that brings together partners from Mozambique, Portugal and Germany. Universities, public institutions, educational organizations and civil society actors collaborate closely, combining their expertise:
- Universidade Pedagógica de Maputo, a leading institution in teacher education with particular expertise in digital education, curriculum development and distance learning
- Universidade Púnguė, a key institution in central Mozambique, with a focus on science and mathematics, as well as practice-oriented education and STEM initiatives
- Universidade Rovuma, the leading pedagogical university in northern Mozambique, with a particular focus on inclusive education and the development of digital competencies in underserved regions
- Instituto Politécnico de Santarém, a public higher education institution known for its practice-oriented teaching and its focus on innovative pedagogical approaches, particularly in STEAM and blended learning
This foundation is strengthened by European partners with experience in digital education and international collaboration (CorEdu), as well as by Lojas de Energias, a Mozambique-based education company focused on sustainability and inclusion, with a strong track record in renewable energy, entrepreneurship and community-based development. Public institutions such as CNAQ help ensure that the approaches developed are embedded in the education system for the long term.
DILIGENCE also places a strong emphasis on linking theory and practice: around 30 schools from across Mozambique are involved as training schools, bringing the project’s concepts directly into the classroom.
