MTC@TUD
Making Teachers Confident supports student teachers at TU Dresden from the start of their studies to the transition to their professional future, helping them to successfully master their studies and develop personally. With various offers and formats, bridges are built to overcome organizational hurdles, to promote key skills for studies and careers in a targeted manner and to develop realistic expectations of themselves, their studies and their professional careers.
Vision of MTC@TUD
Through needs-oriented support, MTC@TUD aims to positively influence and increase the overall academic success of student teachers. The focus is on actively accompanying and transparently shaping the transitions between school and university as well as university and professional future, with the help of tutorials, workshops, exchange formats, qualification and counseling offers as well as video and audio formats. This contributes to a holistic, practice-oriented understanding of teacher training.
Transition from school to university
Prospective students are given a first insight into everyday life as a student in the form of short audio sequences. Student teachers talk about their time at university on various topics. With each (further) episode, the ZLSB podcast offers an insight into the diverse tasks and areas at the Center for Teacher Education and Educational Research (ZLSB).
Against the background of an increasingly heterogeneous student body, the different prerequisites with which students start their teacher training and the organizational complexity of teacher training at TU Dresden, Making Teachers Confident has established various support services and formats. Qualified tutors who are studying to become teachers themselves offer tutorials at the start of the course. In the initial study phase, the tutorials focus on organizational aspects, orientation in the advisory landscape and social as well as professional arrival at TU Dresden.
Tutor training
The training in cooperation with TUTORING hybrid prepares the prospective tutors for their future work. The focus is on the following areas:
-
The role as a tutor
-
Moderating and leading groups
- Planning workshops
- Giving and receiving feedback
- Conversation techniques for advising first semester students
Transition from university to professional future
During the course of their studies, student teachers can attend workshops, information events and exchange formats to find out about the wide range of opportunities available to them during and after their studies. They also have the chance to reflect on their strengths and weaknesses in different settings and work on their teaching personality in a targeted manner. Various ZLSB stakeholders are involved in these formats, such as seconded teachers, alumni, the State Office for Schools and Education as well as the Perspektive Land stakeholders and their partner schools.
MTC@TUD is an ongoing project of the Center for Teacher Education and Educational Research (ZLSB).
MTC@TUD is active in the Tutoring Network.
