TEACHER TRAINING COURSES THAT CONCLUDE WITH THE STAATSEXAMEN (STATE EXAMINATION)
With its cabinet decision of 19 October 2010, the state government of Saxony introduced a new state-wide concept of teacher training at university. Thus, the concept of binary “Bachelor/Master of Education” degree courses was discontinued, and replaced by one-step degree courses that conclude with the Staatsexamen. The courses are tailored to various school types typically found in Germany. In the winter term of 2012/13, the TU Dresden introduced this new form of teacher training, which now features a module-based version of the Staatsexamen. The degree courses correspond with major features of the Bologna Accord and can be seen as an updated version of the previous system. The standard period of study (Regelstudienzeit) of degrees for primary and middle school education has been slightly reduced (see table below).
The TU Dresden offers various teacher training courses that conclude with a state examination:
- Elementary Schools (Lehramt an Grundschulen)
- Middle Schools (Lehramt an Oberschulen)
- Gymnasium (Lehramt an Gymnasien)
- Vocational Schools (Lehramt an berufsbildenden Schulen)
