Teaching Linguistic Means

In this course you acquire knowledge about ways and techniques to teach lexical, grammatical, phonological and orthographic competences in the classroom. The focus will be on forms of integrating linguistic means into teaching functional communicative competences. Methods will be discussed with an emphasis on activities and learning strategies and with regard to lesson and unit planning models.

• Teaching Grammatical Competence
• Teaching Phonological and Orthographic Competences

By the end of the course, participants can:

• apply appropriate methods and activities to develop learners’ lexical, grammatical, phonological and orthographic competences in meaningful contexts.
• integrate linguistic means into task-based units, enabling learners to use them purposefully in reception, production, interaction and mediation.
• reflect on their own teaching practice and make informed methodological decisions to enhance the development of learners’ linguistic competences.
