Learning about plants
There are many ways to discover plant diversity at the Botanical Garden Dresden, whether it be through a guided tour for your group or public events.
Our collection is involved in educational activities for all age groups from preschool over university students to senior citizens.
At the moment, our guided tours are restricted to the open air area. We ask for your understanding.
The garden as a place of learning - educational offers in the Botanical Garden
There are many ways to learn more about the world of plants in the Botanical Garden. Garden staff regularly offer free public guided tours. There are also exhibitions and themed weeks (see dates).
You can also book guided tours for groups (from 12 people). There is a selection of children' s tours for children's groups. School classes from year 5 onwards will find a wide range of events at the Botanic School that are tailored to the Saxon curriculum. From September 2024, the offer will be supplemented by the traveling exhibition Bakteriopolis .
Of course, you can also explore the garden on your own : The plant species are labeled throughout the garden grounds. Information boards on specific individual plants and topics supplement this signage.
On an educational trail on the subject of "bionics", you can find out how nature inspires scientists in their search for ideas for the technology of the future. The nature trail starts about 60 meters behind the entrance on the main path(overview map of the nature trail).
We offer puzzle trails for families or groups of children to print out. Numerous plant portraits and a small collection of videos also give you the opportunity to get to know our plants at home.
You can also purchase the garden guide "Native flora in danger" from the garden administration on weekdays from 8 am to 3.30 pm. It provides interesting information about Saxony's endangered plants in the Botanical Garden. A DVD about the Botanical Garden and a postcard booklet are also available for sale.
