Project 6: Interdependency between national capacity markets and European energy strategies
On the one hand, the European Union seeks to establish a unified, cross-border internal market for energy and sets common objectives for a future energy transformation path (20/20/20-goals). On the other hand, the individual Member States align their energy policies to national needs, although the resulting impact through the progressive development of the internal market can be felt at the European level today. This raises the question to be treated in an interdisciplinary way, how to harmonize the energy economic framework of the national energy policy in the individual states. Within the project the focus is on Central Europe and on instruments to develop alternative energy sources and on capacity mechanisms taking into account the existing infrastructure. For this purpose, the national and European energy economic framework in the national context are examined on the basis of an interdisciplinary approach within the dissertation project. A model-based analysis then is used to look at both the interdependence of individual measures, as well as the effects of European harmonization. For this purpose, various scenarios are developed which allow quantification of the impact of national unilateralism compared to a coordinated approach. Finally ways to concrete implementation of the harmonization path are presented, taking into account the national interests and characteristics. The theme takes into account different perspectives within the Graduiertenkolleg, so that this project also has a central role in bringing together various projects. The project should allow at least six of the scientists to be involved on this topic, thus overcoming one-sided and limited calculation methods. Additionally, the consideration of questions of social acceptability and legal aspects will be discussed.
