Project 7: Green economy – Challenges to health protection at work and in public health
Health impacts of the energy transition in general and of the development of the “green economy” in particular have been studied little to date. The present doctoral project carries out a systematic survey and summary of previous research results with the instrument of a “scoping review”. The scoping reviews to be performed focus upon health protection in the living environment as well as in the work environment. Three thematic fields within the scope of renewable energy are investigated:
1. wind power,
2. solar energy,
3. biomass with focus on wood combustion.
Parallel to the execution of the scoping reviews a survey regarding the economic structures in the field of “green economy” (types of businesses, number of employees, provision with achievements in occupational safety) and also regarding the current and the short-term and medium-term expectable region-specific operation of wind turbines, solar energy systems and biomass systems (especially wood-fuelled combustion systems) in Germany will be carried out. On the basis of the results of the scoping reviews and of the survey of economic structures a specific research question will be identified within one of the aforementioned thematic fields that will be analysed further with primarily qualitative research methods.
