P5: Technological Evaluation of Energy Transmission Systems for an Increased Use of Renewable Energies
The federal government has the goal to cover 80% of the electrical energy from renewable energy sources by 2050. That will lead to far-reaching changes in the field of electric power supply. Renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic and wind power plants are weather dependent and therefore limited in terms of predictability and fluctuate strongly. To ensure the balance between production and consumption, trans-European energy transmission systems are needed. The construction of conventional overhead power lines nowadays is not accepted by large parts of the population for different reasons. The aim of this project is to develop technological assessment of various approaches and to give with the help of other projects of the GRK a holistic overall analysis.
