WP1

Network Management

Leader: UNINOVA

Objectives:

  • Project management and budgetary control.
  • Relationships with the EC and Steering Board (WG on IT).
  • Strategy for network growth.
  • Definition of the Marketing Strategy of the network.
  • Liaise with other initiatives or projects to make profit of useful information.
  • Compilation of deliverables and submission to the EC.
  • Quality Assurance of all deliverables.

WP2

National Information Points and Awareness Strategy

Leader: AIDICO
Contributions of the Partners: TWC,   TUD,   UNINOVA,   STABU,   LIGIM,   LJU,   BIC,   CER,   VTT

Objectives:

  • Collection of information required by the workpackages on Standards, and E-Business, in each country in order to support these workpackages with up-to-date and distributed information.
  • Promoting of increased awareness of the AEC industry about the impact of e-work, e-com technology and the IT-related standards in each country. This is the principal aim of this workpackage and will be achieved through the intensive involvement of new members.
  • Inform continuously the national companies with the updated news from the network.
Therefore, the National Information Points will work in both directions:
      Network     -->  End User
      End User   -->  Network
The National Information Points -NIPs- will be originally constituted by those project partners who are in charge of translating and disseminating information, as well as promoting the network growth, and collecting national information. The number of NIPs is expected to increase in the medium term, as new countries not originally represented in the ProDAEC network will join.

WP3

Industrial Needs

Objectives:

The objective is to collect the industry requirements on product description, data exchange and information flows, co-ordination of processes and needs for workflow, in order to encompass eBusiness in the large. This work package will identify at European level the main interest points for the AEC industry regarding standards and e-business needs.

The analysis will focus on the different agents of the construction process, the product and material providers, construction companies, engineering firms, architects, etc., in order to deliver a set of comprehensive requirements based on current business processes, product data definition and exchange mechanisms, information management practices, description of the various interactions taking place between actors, identification of workflows, and so on.

The Work Package will explore what is required to integrate the business processes taking into account the range in needs from the very large companies through to the very small SMEs. The work will examine the standards required, identify missing standards, suggest enhancements to existing standards and recommend where standards should be more compatible with each other. ProDAEC is also an opportunity to identify the key functionality of software applications required by users.

TWC will be supported by a group of national organisations, which will be in charge of the tasks mentioned above in their country.

WP4

Standards

Leader: H+P,  AEC3
Contributions of the Partners: VTT,   TUD,   STABU,   LJU,   LIGIM,   AIDICO

Objectives:

This workpackage addresses the problems of exchanging design data, structural analysis data, equipment dimensioning data, materials characterisation data, etc. It targets also project organization, contract negotiation and project budgeting issues, along with project management issues and requirements for workflow management during construction project execution.

Besides the responsible partners, substantial contributions of several experienced members are defined. The consortium knowledge shall be taken into account not only to analyse the current situation, but also to take advantage of related projects in which the WP members are or have been involved (e.g. ToCEE, VEGA, ISTforCE, OSMOS, e-CONSTRUCT, e-LEGAL).

WP5

Electronic Business

Leader: CSTB
Contributions of the Partners: ANTARA,   UNINOVA,   BIC

Objectives:

  • Analyse the state-of-the-art of e-business in the AEC sector.
    • Available infrastructure and tools in the industry. IT penetration level in the companies.
    • Marketplaces in AEC. Profiles, targets, size, services, modus operandi.
    • Security-related issues. Risk perception. Digital certificates and applications in AEC.
  • Seek e-Business Case Studies, and identify Best Practices.
    • Use of e-business platforms and services by the industry.
    • Creation and exploitation of product e-catalogues.
  • Analyse applicability of emerging e-business standards, specifically those related to XML technology.
    • Interoperability of e-business services and tools.
    • Availability of XML-based platforms and repositories (e.g., DTD, XML Schemas).
    • Reuse of established protocols for AEC (e.g., IFC) for interoperability with emerging e-business practices.
Generate recommendations to the AEC industry and e-business providers, together with directions to the research community.

This work package will be open to all organisations willing to collaborate in the e-Business working group of the network, especially e-Business providers. Especially welcomed are: system vendors, service suppliers, platform providers and end users.

In the course of the project, WG5 plans to generate a long-term Working Group to be active during and beyond ProDAEC network.
