Steel and composite construction - news from research, standardization and practice
After a two-year interruption, the 14th Dresden Steel Construction Conference was held in hybrid form on March 29 in the recently renovated Heinz Schönfeld Lecture Hall at Dresden Technical University. Under the heading "Steel and Composite Construction - News from Research, Standardization and Practice", participants were given insights into various steel construction topics by proven experts from Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg. The technical presentations covered the standardization and practical application of hollow section steel structures and cast steel in civil engineering, the design and execution of slim floor slabs, practical recommendations for structural engineers, inspectors and fabricators on welded structures, and a project report on the construction of the new Kattwyk railroad bridge in Hamburg. The program was rounded off by presentations on the standardization of FEM calculations in EN 1993-1-14 and on Building Information Modeling (BIM) in steel construction.
The diverse program invited technical discussions with the speakers during the breaks and provided an excellent platform for professional exchange. The conference was complemented by various trade exhibitors, who provided information on current developments and new products at their booths. The next steel construction conference is planned next year for March 2023. A detailed report will soon be available on the website of the Chair of Steel Construction.
