Subcollection 9 - Clay minerals
The basic stock of the collection of clay minerals was a selection of comparative and laboratory samples, in particular of clay raw materials, from the X-ray laboratory of the Institute of Mineral Raw Materials and Exploitation Industry Dresden (Institut für mineralische Rohstoff- und Lagerstättenwirtschaft - IfR). The IfR was closed in 1990. Today, the subcollection contains about 2000 samples of clay minerals, clays, kaolins, bentonites and other clay minerals and sediments, including engineering products. The collection of clay minerals is used as a depot for teaching and research purposes and inaccessible to the public.
