After successful matriculation, it makes sense to prepare for the upcoming start of your studies. The TU Dresden offers various possibilities for this.
1. bridge courses
Especially for engineering studies it is helpful to refresh your skills in mathematics, physics or chemistry. Every year at the start of the winter semester, the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the TU Dresden organises bridge courses for high school graduates in the subjects chemistry, physics and mathematics.
The bridge courses serve to directly prepare future students of engineering, economics and natural sciences for their studies. The focus is on repeating and deepening the parts of the curriculum that first-year students are expected to know, but which experience has shown to cause the most difficulties in application.
Every first-year student whose degree programme includes physics, chemistry or mathematics as a subject can participate. Participation is free of charge, registration is not required.
The individual courses are largely coordinated so that it is also possible to attend several courses.
bridge course physics
bridge course mathematics
bridge course chemistry
2. Engineering Preparatory Course
Another good way to prepare for the upcoming studies is the preparatory course in engineering sciences, for which a fee is charged. Preparatory course (fee required) The aim of this comprehensive course offering is to introduce participants to the engineering mindset and problem-solving strategies. Here, participants can prepare themselves very well for university learning - which is very different from learning at school. Even before they start their studies, course participants can make contact with future fellow students and get to know important contacts at TU Dresden.
3. Dates for the start of the new academic year
The new academic year begins at TU Dresden on 1 October. The first day of lectures is 9th October 2023.
4. Ceremonial Matriculation in the Audimax
on 5 October 2023 from 3 p.m. in the Auditorium Centre of the TU Dresden

5. First Semester Orientation (ESE)
For the various degree programmes, important events usually begin one week before the official start of lectures for 1st semester students with the freshman orientation (ESE). Throughout the week, our student council organises many events to introduce our campus, our faculty and the city of Dresden.
Here is an overview of all freshman events at the BIW faculty

In any case, it makes sense for our new students to attend these events; later in their studies, the student council is an important and useful point of contact for many practical questions about studying. The official welcome event at the end of this week is a compulsory event.
