Exhibition in the COSMO science forum on the subject of sustainability
With a focus on the question: "What actually is sustainability?" the Chair of Architectural Design and Construction II takes part in a joint exhibition in the COSMO Science Forum in the Dresden Palace of Culture. Current designs and models will be shown, which were created as part of the semester assignment for the winter semester 22/23 for a "mobility hub" at the Wiener Platz Ost location.
The relatively new "Mobility Hub" construction program includes a question that architects and urban planners have always had:
Do new programs also create a new image of architecture?
The starting point of the consideration - in all thinking and acting - is the indispensable development of sustainability in all areas of life, which will also change our mobility behavior. This results in changed needs, which also bring new requirements. The relatively new construction and functional program "Mobility Hub" represents a programmatic reaction to such changes.
It is important to have a basic understanding of the interpretation of a program that is not designed to be monofunctional. It's not about understanding the task as a design for a well-designed parking garage. Any inner-city places are far too valuable for that. In order to support and enable changing mobility behavior, many complementary functions must be combined in such a building.
Can the innovative "Mobility Hub" concept meet these requirements? Can a new, functioning hybrid urban building block be developed from this? Which functions can be combined? There are hardly any really functional role models. So what does this new type look like?
The task of the architecture students was therefore, among other things, to devote themselves to the question of which appearance of architecture this new building program appropriately represents.
It was also necessary to design a multifunctional program for the building at the central inner-city location Wiener Platz Ost. In addition, the building should be networked with the immediately adjacent urban space through its diverse new usage structure and enable a comfortable, resource-saving connection to the spacious urban area.
