Offers for field internships and field trips
Information on current offers and on enrolment modalities will be published at the homepage of the Institute of Geography in the portlet "News" (right column). In some cases you can find further information on the websites of the professorships or on the notice boards in the Institute's corridor.
As a rule, enrolment for one-day and half-day internships takes place via OPAL. For internships and field trips lasting several days, you have to register directly at the professorships.
Protocols
Your active participation is required during field placements and field trips. As a basis for the protocol, be sure to keep a transcript in your field book, i.e. an A5 notebook with a hard cover. In the field book, the main questions, topics of discussion and thoughts have to be noted down and small sketches have to be made. Please use the field trip log cover sheet template. The transcript will be included in the assessment of your module performance.
Verification of the field internships
Your participation in the field internships is recorded by the person carrying out the internships and forwarded to the Examinations Office. For your personal verification you can use the form applicable to your course of study (pdf file on the website of the examination office).
Preparation and equipment
Preparation for field internships and field trips:
- Try to find out the aims of the field internship, the route and the focus of the content!
- Get maps of the trip's area!
- Prepare yourself in terms of content, because you will often only see what you have previously dealt with in your courses.
- Please inform yourself in time about the meeting point and the departure time!
- Make sure there are no last minute changes before you start!
The equipment depends on the type and duration of the off-road internship and includes for example:
- Meals
- Waterproof clothing (shades are not suitable for physical-geographical field trips!)
- Waterproof but comfortable footwear
- Fieldbook and pens as well as pocketknives and magnifying glass
We wish you interesting and impressive field internships and field trips!
