Abstract
Standardized specifications for interfaces, developed by the OpenGis Consortium (Open Geospatial Consortium), is used for delivering high-performance maps based on OpenStreetMap. Besides the specifications of the OpenGis Consortium, there arealso specifications of the OpenSource Geospatial Foundation to provide tiled Map Servers.Based on the principle of Web Map Services, these specifications promise more performance for tiled Map Server. Prefacing the concept of spatial data infrastructure, the development of volunteered geographic information and the growth of OpenStreetMap, the specifications will be explained and compared. Furthermore, the possibilities to realize a tiled Web Map Server will be shown, described and scrutinized. Using OpenStreetMap data is challenging in many ways. Therefore, the thesis demonstrates solutions to synchronize the database, as well as to calculate and to delete affected Tiles. The performance increase of the tiled Web Map Serveris determined and proved in the final analysis. Thus, an integration is made by VGI in a SDI
