Review: Open Day on May 5, 2018 in Pirna
The Institute of Waste and Recycling Management held an open day for interested members of the public at its site in Pirna-Copitz on Saturday, May 5, 2018.
Hourly guided tours through the institute were offered, during which, among other things, a waste sorting plant was demonstrated. Furthermore, there were information booths on the topic of waste and recycling management. Of course, a children's program and catering were also provided.
The dominant theme of several popular scientific lectures was in particular the question "Waste incineration versus recycling - which is actually better?" and the uncovering of "myths of waste management".
These lectures and the possibility to visit the institute building as well as the information booths of external suppliers in the field of waste management were actively used by the attending guests. The visitors came mainly from the neighboring district and some of them were former employees of the TU Dresden who enjoy their well-deserved retirement in Pirna and the surrounding area. After all, parts of the physics department were already settled here in the middle of the last century.
This event day is now to be the prelude to a series of further similar information opportunities for the population resident at the site within the next few years. The team at the Institute of Waste and Recycling Management was delighted with the response from the local area this year.
