Project description
The aim of the project is to strengthen the biogas sector in Europe by increasing the yield, speed, quality, and robustness of biogas production. To this end, we will develop highly efficient microbial consortia based on strains that naturally live in anaerobic digesters.
Within the Micro4Biogas project, a large number of European biogas plants will be investigated with regard to their technical, microbial and chemical profiles. Based on this, relevant bacteria and archaea strains with interesting properties will be isolated and used as a bioaugmentation strategy. This should make the biogas production process faster, more profitable, more flexible and more robust. In addition, a concept will be developed to combine the promising results into a marketable product. The results achieved will be published continuously on the project website: https://micro4biogas.eu/.
