Subtheme: Elaboration of a material flow balance of the waste accumulated during the August flood 2002 in the urban area of Dresden

Project description and results:
Within the scope of the above mentioned subproject the following investigations were planned in particular:
- Inventory of material loads and quantities of deposited and disposed sludges and other flood-related wastes,
- Investigation of the elution behavior of selected substance groups of the sludges and effects on the condition of the groundwater body as well as the substance inventory of landfills,
- Derivation of hazard criteria and elaboration of recommendations for the handling of sludges in case of floods.
The investigations were to serve the following objectives:
- Recording of the main waste material flows in the course of flood-related disposal,
- Presentation of a target/actual comparison of flood-related versus regular waste management,
- Determination of material discharge potentials resulting from flood-related waste,
- Formulation of recommendations for waste management in the event of a flood.
