Research project chromate recycling
Thermal treatment of waste and residual materials for the recovery of heavy metals and the production of production mixtures, sub-topic: development of analytical methodology, process control and quality assurance ("chromate recycling"):
Partner: Industrieofenbau Aue GmbH, Mentec GmbH (GER)
Funding: SAB - Sächsische Aufbaubank
Duration: August 2002 - December 2004
Project description:
In order to meet the principles of an energy-efficient and resource-saving economy, the aim is to develop a cost-effective and thus marketable process for the recovery of chromium and zinc from waste containing heavy metals. For waste producers (especially the electroplating and chemical industries), this process offers a real recycling opportunity. At present, this waste is still largely disposed of in underground landfills and thus removed from the economic cycle.
The following subtasks will be carried out by our institute in this cooperation project:
- Complete emission monitoring,
- Assessment and evaluation of the installed flue gas cleaning system,
- Process control and monitoring,
- Adaptation and development of suitable sampling and sample preparation regulations,
- Development and application of suitable analytical methods,
- Analysis of relevant input and output products.
