(AUNP project for jointly applied research on "Integration of Waste Management Measures into the Specific Conditions of European and Asian Settlement Areas")
Partners:
- Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (GR)
- Hanoi University of Natural Science (VN)
- Miriam College (PH)
Funding: European Union (EU)
Duration: January 2004 - December 2005
Project description:
The project aims to jointly apply research and expand academic knowledge exchange in the field of waste management, with a main focus on composting as a relatively easy-to-implement method for recycling the high proportion of organic matter in municipal solid waste under both European and Asian conditions. The main activities within the project include the examination of waste reduction measures, such as different recycling approaches and composting, and the consideration of the respective country-specific socio-cultural and economic characteristics with regard to their influence on the application of these steps. Through this joint focus, the project aims to improve the knowledge of the participating partners with regard to waste management approaches and research within the respective other countries and to learn to understand them against the background of the respective socio-cultural and scientific conditions. In addition, this knowledge is to be made available to interested parties and the public.
