Project description:
The PAYT project "Pay-as-you-throw" refers to the question whether sustainable effects in waste separation and collection of recyclable materials can be brought about by introducing a charging system based on the individual contribution to waste generation, and if so, then:
- To what extent?
- What framework conditions are necessary?
- Can this be realized cost-effectively?
As a result of the studies, a handbook with recommendations for local decision-makers and authorities regarding the requirements and possibilities for the introduction of such models should be developed. This should, among other things, take into account the findings of existing trials and various case studies and outline the aspects and consequences to be considered by decision-makers and those involved in implementation. Furthermore, proposals for the verification of suitable approaches, of possible technical solutions and weak points should be presented in the form of demonstrations.
