Project description:
Hazardous waste management in Vietnam and India:
Within the framework of cooperation with scientific and economic institutions in Vietnam and India, working aids and guidelines are being developed to facilitate the safe handling of hazardous waste materials and their proper collection, as well as the disposal of waste in accordance with the state of the art, for specialists in the Southeast Asian region.
The aim of the project is to develop guidelines and information packages for safe handling, segregation, collection and disposal of hazardous waste.
Target groups are people who have to make decisions about hazardous waste and have to handle it. One target group are students who are decision makers today and in future. The other target group includes authorities and communities who collect and dispose hazardous waste and managers and workers who have to make decisions about its handling and treatment. The project aims to give them information and guidelines to facilitate their decision making.
First activity is to formulate an inventory of hazardous waste and assess the current technical and economical situation of the handling of this waste. Based on such information and analysis, technical and institutional guidelines for all decision makers will be developed. These guidelines will be evaluated in two example regions in India and Vietnam, and would form a basis for interventions at wider scales of operation.
It is an EU-supported joint applied research project in the Asia Pro Eco Program with partners from Germany, India Vietnam and UK.
