New DBU scholarship focus on the circular economy
DBU - Neuer DBU-Stipendienschwerpunkt zur Circular Economy | Newsletter
The use of the earth's natural resources is a key issue for mankind. This is why an alternative to the conventional linear thought patterns of "take - make - waste" is currently being discussed: the Circular Economy. Against this backdrop, the DBU is inviting applications for funding for a doctoral program entitled "Better management and living in cycles - transformation potentials of the Circular Economy" as part of its doctoral scholarship program.
"The aim is to establish an interdisciplinary doctoral college for research, development, innovation and transformation in the Circular Economy," explains Dr. Maximilian Hempel, head of the DBU's "Environmental Research and Nature Conservation" department. "So young scientists who conduct research on environmental and sustainability problems may feel addressed." It's not just about natural and engineering sciences, but explicitly also about social sciences, humanities, economics and law. Because, Hempel says, Circular Economy is a very broad field with complex research questions. "For example, there is still a lack of knowledge about the significance of a circular economy for society as a whole or about the cultural change toward a circular society," says Hempel. Another exciting question is "how companies need to work together in order for a circular economy to function at all.
