Aircraft manufacturing returns to Saxony

On November 15 and 16, 2022, the AIRCRAFT Supplier Summit event took place for the first time at the Globana Messe and Event Campus in Leipzig. The opening of the two-day event, was done by Prof. Fricke in his function as aerospace coordinator of the Free State of Saxony.

During the opening ceremony, he expressed on behalf of  the Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer Saxony's pleasure and support for the upcoming establishment of an OEM (Original Aircraft and Equipment Manufacturing) in Saxony. With the construction of a production hall at the Halle/Leipzig airport in 2023, an aircraft manufacturer – Deutsche Aircraft GmbH – will return to Saxony after more than 60 years. Starting in 2026, series production of the relaunched DO 328 eco will begin at the Leipzig. Deutsche Aircraft GmbH will then focus on both sustainable handling of its products and sustainable production – through a resource-friendly, mainly local or regional supply chain. The regional economy and the aviation industry will receive a boost at the latest with the establishment of at least 300 new employees, at Deutsche Aircraft GmbH alone. The Free State of Saxony appreciates this development very much and attaches great importance to the aerospace industry for the regional economy. Therefore, the master plans of Leipzig/Halle Airport including a clear commitment to Dresden Airport are fully supported.

The first AIRCRAFT Supplier Summit 2022 ran with the motto "The Future is now!". The aim was to bring suppliers, manufacturers and service providers together and to enable an exchange on the latest developments in the industry. To this purpose, the two-day program was filled with presentations, panel discussions and expert talks. The discussions focused on what the near future of the aviation industry promises for suppliers, OEMs and passengers. The exhibitors and protagonists on stage presented their latest products and advances and set impulses for future joint projects.

The AIRCRAFT Supplier Summit will be hosted again in 2023 on November 7-8 at the Globana Messe and Event Campus in Leipzig, organized by Berlin Institute Supply Chain Management GmbH.
