Theses/Thesis
Table of contents
The thesis expands on the knowledge gained in the courses. Our goal is to actively involve our students in research projects, particularly in the ongoing projects of our faculty, to provide them with an understanding of current scientific topics in corporate environmental economics. In this context, we intend to distribute only topics with a scientific foundation. Our professorship is the primary focus of topic assignments, as your work should support current research topics. If you want to write in collaboration with a company, please ensure that only topics that are also reflected in our research focus are supervised. Pure cost-benefit analyses, for example, will not be supervised. The professorship is obliged to work with you and the company to change the task so that it meets all of the requirements.
Since the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Sustainability Management and Environmental Accounting would like to publish the theses, the student is responsible for ensuring that the thesis is publishable, which means that permission from the company to publish has been obtained.
Impulse
You can't really imagine which topic you'll choose or what impact your thesis will have on practice? Here is an example of a thesis supervised by Dr. Christoph Scope in cooperation with the DKMS Life Science Lab in Dresden:
Eligibility for first assessment
Students who want to write a thesis at our professorship under Prof. Dr. Remmer Sassen's supervision must meet the following requirements:
Bachelor students: When you apply for a Bachelor's thesis, you are also applying for a place in our Bachelor seminar (syllabus). The bachelor seminar will teach you the "tools" for successfully writing a bachelor thesis. The Bachelor's seminar must be completed before starting to work on the Bachelor's thesis at our professorship. Admission to the bachelor seminar requires successful completion of at least two courses from the elective area of the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Sustainability Management and Environmental Accounting, one of which must be Stakeholder Management, Value Chain Management, Case Studies in Energy and the Environment, or Corporate Social Responsibility. The case study seminar includes systematic literature research as part of the curriculum.
Master and diploma students: When you apply for a Master's thesis, you also apply for a place in our research seminar (syllabus). The research seminar will teach you the "tools" for successfully writing a Master's or Diploma thesis. The research seminar at our professorship must be completed before writing the Master's or Diploma thesis. Admission to the research seminar requires successful completion of at least two courses from the elective area of the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Sustainability Management and Environmental Accounting, one of which must be either Resource Management, Strategic Sustainability Management or Study Projects in Energy and Environment (Study Projects in Sustainability Management).
Eligibility for second assessment
Students who wish to write a thesis at our chair with Prof. Dr. Remmer Sassen as a second examiner, must meet the requirements listed above for the first examiner. The topic, and thus the thesis, must include business issues to 50%. Furthermore, it must be clarified in advance with the respective first examiner that an accompanying consultation of the thesis by our faculty is guaranteed; this includes, as a minimum, agreement on the outline.
Formal
Please keep in mind that your written work must adhere to our guidelines for preparing scientific papers and presentations. These guidelines can be found in the Notes & Downloads section.
