Prof. Stelvia Matos (PhD, University of São Paulo, Brazil) is a Reader in Social Innovation and Sustainability Management at Surrey Business School, UK, and the Sessional Editor for Sustainable Development Innovation for Technovation, a technology and innovation management journal with a 2016 impact factor of 3.265. Prior to joining the University of Surrey, she was an Associate Professor and Director of the MSc Sustainable Business at the International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (ICCSR), University of Nottingham. She has also worked in Canada as a Research Associate at Simon Fraser University and the University of Calgary, where she combined her technical background with various management theories to explore how complex interactions among social, environmental and economic factors affect, or are affected by, innovation dynamics, entrepreneurship and policy development.
Stelvia’s current research concerns the difficult process of how industry can change their practices in response to social and environmental pressures. This includes the social consequences of innovation and entrepreneurial behaviour (particularly in Brazil), commercializing sustainable technologies, sustainable supply chain management, and the unanticipated consequences of innovation. Her research has been supported by funding agencies such as Genome Canada and the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, and has been published in for example California Management Review, Energy Policy, Journal of Cleaner Production, International Journal of Production Research, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Operations Management, Research Policy, Research-Technology Management, Small Business Economics, Technological Forecasting & Social Change and Technovation.
