EPOKA University and TUD Dresden University of Technology Strengthen Bonds through Successful DAAD Exchange Program
EPOKA University and TUD Dresden University of Technology have solidified their partnership through a fruitful exchange program that fostered cross-cultural learning and academic collaboration. The connection between the two institutions originated from the ERASMUS+ KA2 project VALEU-X, which focused on the joint development, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of an innovative COIL learning arrangement. Building upon this foundation, a formalized student exchange program fostered by DAAD was established, offering students valuable international qualifications for the European job market.
During the week of June 5-9, 2023, fifteen outgoing students from TUD Dresden University of Technology had the privilege of attending EPOKA University as ambassadors of their institution. They immersed themselves in a diverse range of courses delivered in English, including lectures and workshops on Strategic Management, Albanian culture, and history. Esteemed Prof. Bashkurti, the President of the Albanian Diplomatic Academy in Albania, partially led some of these sessions, offering students a unique perspective.
Among the workshops, the Chair of Information Management from TUD Dresden University of Technology organized an interactive session on digital literacy. Research Associates and Student Assistants from TUD Dresden University of Technology facilitated this workshop, engaging EPOKA students in practical exercises. Topics covered during the workshop included the opportunities and risks of Chat GPT, critical thinking in a digital context, and ethical and responsible digital citizenship. This collaboration contributed to the international exchange between the two universities, enabling students to explore new trends in digital literacy.
At the culmination of the exchange, EPOKA and TUD Dresden University of Technology students showcased their final results from their eight-week online collaboration. Together, they developed realistic case scenarios for upcoming virtual collaborative learning experiences. The exchange program also provided opportunities for students to delve into the historical context of Albania through tours to BunkArt 1 and the castle of Kruja.
Throughout the week, the visiting students were hosted by Dr. Esmir Demaj and Teaching Assistants from the Business Administration department. EPOKA University's Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Öztaş, warmly welcomed the students, acknowledging the significance of such activities and praising the fruitful collaboration between the institutions. In addition, Dr. Alba Gerdeci, Head of the International Relations Office, provided a comprehensive presentation on EPOKA University, while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lisen Bashkurti delivered an engaging talk on the National Identity of Albanians, covering history, geography, culture, and influential figures. The visiting students also attended the Strategic Management class in the master's program.
During their stay, students from TUD Dresden University of Technology had the chance to explore the vibrant city of Tirana and its rich historical and cultural heritage. Guided excursions took them to iconic sites such as Skanderbeg Square, the National History Museum, and the Et'hem Bey Mosque. A trip to Kruje allowed them to further immerse themselves in Albanian history by visiting the historic Kruje Castle, where they learned about the national hero, Skanderbeg. These excursions provided a deeper understanding of the country's past and offered students a taste of its natural beauty and cultural traditions.
The week-long exchange was a dynamic blend of learning, cultural immersion, and collaborative case study presentations. It provided students with opportunities to broaden their perspectives, forge new friendships, and acquire valuable skills that will enhance their academic and personal lives.
We are looking forward to continue the exchange program in 2024.
