12th Logistics Management Conference (LM 2021)
On September 15 and 16, the 12th Logistics Management Conference (LM 2021) took place at TU Dresden. The focus was on the discussion of what influence current developments such as digitalization, sustainability and disruptions have on logistics and supply chain management. The organizer of this online conference is the Scientific Commission Logistics of the VHB e.V.. Due to the Corona pandemic, the organizing team, Prof. Dr. Jörn Schönberger, Prof. Dr. Rainer Lasch and Prof. Dr. Udo Buscher, decided to host the conference online for the first time.
68 scientists attended a total of 34 lectures, each of which was held in two parallel sessions. The program was enriched by the plenary lectures of Alexander Hohlfeld from Deutsche Bahn and Prof. Christian Bierwirth from Martin Luther University Halle- Wittenberg. All accepted papers will be published in the book series "Lecture Notes in Logistics (LNL)" published by Springer-Verlag.
In addition, a Best Paper Award was presented at this conference, which was supported for the second time by the DHL Hub Leipzig. Barbara Himstedt and Prof. Dr. Frank Meisel from the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel received the award for their paper "A Systematic Evaluation of Extensions for the Shared Customer Collaboration Vehicle Routing Problem". The paper aims to optimize the collaboration of service providers to simultaneously deliver shipments from multiple logistics service providers to individual recipients. In their paper, the author team draws on a model already known in the literature, explicitly identifies where extensions are needed, and stringently implements them.
As it was not possible to hold a face-to-face conference this year, the next Logistics Management conference is to be held again in Dresden from 13.09. - 15.09.2023. Then the participants will hopefully also have the chance to enjoy "Elbflorenz" with its cultural beauties.
