Medical Informatics Hub in Saxony – MiHUBx
Digital Health research group helps explore personalized cancer medicine:
Under the leadership of Prof. Martin Sedlmayr, the "Medical Informatics Hub in Saxony - MiHUBx" started its work on September 1 as one of 6 regional hubs of digital medical infrastructure in Germany. As part of the flagship initiative of the BMBF's digital strategy, approximately 11.2 million euros will be made available for the implementation of MiHUBx until 2025. The task of the progress hubs is to integrate the pioneering work of the medical informatics initiative on digitalization in medicine from the university hospitals - initially in large-scale pilot projects - into all areas of the healthcare system. In MiHuBx, the focus is on three specific use cases: diabetic eye disease (DED), pandemic management and personalized cancer medicine.
The Digital Health Research Group (formerly: HeLiCT) at the Faculty of Business and Economics is pleased to be responsible for an important building block for the research and development of personalized cancer medicine. The goal of the work in MiHUBx, together with the National Center for Tumor Diseases Dresden (NCT), is to research how affected individuals can be digitally integrated into the patient pathway and how the data generated in this way can in turn be used to personalize the individual's therapy strategy and therapy strategies in general. What makes the project special is that personalized medicine has two main considerations here. On the one hand, the analysis of biomarkers is used to tailor treatment approaches more closely to the individual patient's needs (focus on NCT). On the other hand, the patient himself is integrated into the treatment as a responsible partner. "With regard to the equal involvement of patients, this MiHUBx use case is a key project from our point of view to show that we are also capable of digitalization of patients' data," explains Dr. Hannes Schlieter, head of the Digital Health Research Group. The research group will be provided with approximately 750,000 euros over two tranches for the implementation of the project measures in the years 2021-2025.
