Does green investment work against climate change?
In order to achieve the ambitious targets for reducing CO2 emissions, the financial sector is also looking for solutions. But does green financing really have the effects on combating climate change that the financial sector and investors hope it will? The Advisory Board to the Federal Ministry of Finance, chaired by Prof. Dr. Marcel Thum (Chair of Economics, esp. Finance), has addressed this question in a recent report.
The authors conclude that green finance delivers less than it promises, largely due to the fact that in both green investment strategies and green public debt, the financing instruments used and the use of funding to achieve climate goals are not linked.
