Prof. Dr. Esswein retires and becomes senior professor
Prof. Dr. Werner Esswein, long-time holder of the professorship for Business Informatics, esp. Systems Engineering, retired on October 1, 2021. Fortunately, he will remain with the faculty as a senior professor. Together with the research group Digital Health Prof. Esswein will continue to conduct research on current topics related to digitalization in healthcare.
Prof. Esswein has succeeded in establishing one of the largest and most third-party funded chairs at the faculty. Among the greatest third-party funding successes in recent years are, for example, the participation in the Collaborative Research Center for Thermo-energetic Design of Machine Tools (SFB-Transregio 96), the acquisition of the junior research group Care4Saxony as well as the HORIZON 2020 project vCare. In teaching, Prof. Esswein read "Einführung in die Wirtschaftsinformatik", "Programmierung und Datenbanken" and "Methodische Grundlagen" in addition to his own courses for many years. From 1997-2000, Prof. Esswein was dean of the faculty and in this capacity, among other things, oversaw the award of an honorary doctorate to Kofi Annan.
