Jasmin Rutscher, student of Economics for a semester abroad at the University of the West of Scotland, Paisley
"My stay abroad has already taken place. From September to December 2021 I studies at the University of the West of Scotland in Paisley. It was a very special, exciting but also challenging time for me. Exciting not only because of the effects of the BREXIT, which could be seen not only by less well-filled supermarket shelves. Exciting especially because of the unsteadily changing corona restrictions. The pandemic accompanied my entire stay from a customized application process at UWS, to enrollment, to course selection, and finally course attendance. However, I was very lucky that I was able to attend at least one event per module in presence. Therefore, I was able to gain a good insight into the "normal" everyday life of a student at UWS.
With all the challenges, it was wonderful to know that I didn't have to walk this path alone. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Professor Endriss very much. Without this financial support, many things would have been very difficult to implement or simply not possible at all. I had an exciting time, was able to collect great memories and get to know people and can only recommend a study abroad experience - even in corona times - to every student."
Leon Kaufmann-Ludwig, student of Industrial Engineering and Management for a semester abroad at the Universita degli Studi "Ca' Foscari' di Venezia"
"Already on February 1, I'm leaving by train for Venice. For five months I will be living and studying at a place where you would otherwise expect to find mainly day tourists. I am particularly excited about all the personal, cultural, linguistic and academic impressions I will be able to take away from my time studying in Italy. For me personally, however, not only my country of choice, Italy, but also Europe as a whole has a very special meaning.
I believe that in a united Europe and the common European values lie huge opportunities for all of us, which are far more complex than just the Erasmus funding for my semester abroad. If you don't believe that, you can take a look at the United Kingdom and see what restrictions the Brexit brings now. But I also believe that a common European identity can be a countermovement to hatred, exclusion and nationalist ideas.
Finally, I would like to thank Professor Endriss and the entire selection committee around Stefan Albers for their trust in considering me for this valuable award and the accompanying financial support."
