Research Profile
The research activities of the faculty can be assigned to five research fields (blue honeycombs) which are to be considered in the context of five application areas (grey honeycombs). The research fields and application areas are described in more detail here.

Research Fields
The functioning of international and small-scale markets as well as government intervention in these markets are the focus of the research field "Markets and Regulation".
Topics such as globalization and resource allocation are covered as are the analysis of banking and financial markets, labor and education markets policy, and standard-setting processes in accounting.
The research field "Transformation and Innovation" focuses on product, process, and management innovations as well as changes at the societal, personal, and (inter)company level. Specific topics addressed in this research field include demographic change, migration, and entrepreneurship.
In the research field "Networks" we deal with interorganizational cooperation as well as technology-oriented interdependencies in the production of goods and services. In current research projects transport and energy networks are examined, as are questions of supply chain management and the platform economy.
In this research field we develop, among other things, new solutions for data-driven business models, organizations, and processes. We are taking into account both human and organizational factors in addition to technical innovations. Specific research projects deal with, for example, startups, intelligent mobility, telemedicine, enterprise modeling, or virtual learning.
The focus of research in the field of “Corporate Management” is in the development and testing of methods and instruments for successful management processes in organizations.
Sustainability management is just as much In the focus of current research projects are sustainable management just as much as relationship management, diversity
management, competence development, or algorithmic corporate management.
Application Areas
Some research questions in the application area "Education & Politics" are:
- How does the effectiveness of political measures depend on economic conditions and political attitudes?
- How can specific competencies be analyzed and promoted among different groups of people in different contexts (e.g. companies, universities, schools)? What role does digitalization play in this?
- How can (digital) learning environments and learning interventions be developed and empirically tested?
In the area of "Health" we consider the following questions, among others:
- What influence does digitalization have on the doctor-patient relationship?
- On which framework conditions does the success and acceptance of AI-supported clinical interventions depend?
- How can the economic development of the healthcare sector be evaluated and predicted?
Central questions in the area of "Environment, Energy, and Mobility" are:
- How can ecological aspects be integrated into operational decision-making processes? Which framework conditions have to be considered and which decision-making instruments are suitable for economic-ecological optimization?
- Which models and methods can be used to optimize complex energy systems, model energy markets, and evaluate new technologies?
- How do specialized information systems and digital business models contribute to the development and establishment of new mobility services (e.g. car sharing, bike sharing, ride sharing)?
In the application area "Industry & Logistics" we focus on the following questions, among others:
- How can global supply chains be managed efficiently?
- How can production planning and control be designed sustainably?
- How can processes in production, logistics, and trade be integrated and optimized using mathematical models and methods?
- How can the digitalization of business processes in purchasing, procurement, and sales promote the external networking of a company?
Examples of research questions in this application area are:
- How are local and global labor markets changing?
- How is the ongoing digitalization affecting working conditions and processes?
- How can existing approaches and concepts of corporate management be transferred to the future of work? What new concepts and approaches are needed and how can they be developed?
