Objectives & Content |
Based on a brief introduction to qualitative research (methods), the course draws on Yin’s (2014) seminal textbook to review the different stages of case study research by means of student presentations (“learning by explaining”): (1) How to know whether and when to use the case study as a research method; (2) Designing case studies; (3) Preparing to collect case study evidence; (4) Collecting case study evidence; (5) Analyzing case study evidence; (6) Reporting case studies. Students then apply their knowledge by classifying and critically reviewing a case study-based research paper published in a top-tier journal (“learning by applying”). After the course, students will be familiar with basic concepts, techniques, and strategies along the six stages of case study research and will be able to evaluate the methodological soundness of corresponding research efforts. | |
Forms of Teaching & Learning |
