Digitization is taking place throughout the entire campus. In this respect, the CIDS is a crystallization point with intersections across all topics in all areas.Thus, the TU Dresden addresses – through the integration of 8 departments and related topic clusters under one roof to a center for digital sciences with more than 500 employees - the cross-disciplinary processing of scientific issues in the topic spectrum of digitization, high-performance computing, data, modeling and simulation, artificial intelligence, knowledge extraction and transfer, digital tools in teaching, social interactions, and numerous other digitization topics.

ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig

Since 2019, the Center for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence - ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig - extends the research program of the national competence center for Big Data, ScaDS, founded in 2014. With its research, ScaDS.AI bridges the gap between the efficient use of mass data and advanced AI and addresses new methods for machine learning, knowledge management and efficient data handling. Furthermore, ScaDS.AI develops service-oriented solutions and cooperates with a variety of application partners from science and industry.

Zentrum für Informationsdienste und Hochleistungsrechnen

ZIH

As scientific institution of the TUD, the Center for Information Services and High Performance Computing (ZIH) is responsible for the IT infrastructure of the university. It operates the central IT infrastructure services as well as servers and it is a competence center for high-performance computing. In addition, as an interdisciplinary center, it supports the university's schools in all IT-relevant areas. To support these tasks, ZIH carries out research and development work and is closely networked nationally and internationally with scientific institutions and partners from industry and business.

SynoSys

The Center for Synergy of Systems (SynoSys) focuses on research in „Interdisciplinary Digital Science for Healthy Human Development“ for complex systems. SynoSys investigates emergence, self-organization and swarm intelligence in heterogeneous, complex, collective adaptive human-nature-technical systems like robots in medicine, neural systems or social groups. Using digital research methods, it investigates how research results can be transferred between different disciplines.

CODIP

The Center for Open Digital Innovation and Participation (CODIP) researches digital media as tools for teaching, learning, research and other contexts of activity, but also in everyday social life, succeeding the Media Center. It focuses on the consequences of digitization for innovation processes, the testing of digital research infrastructures and the demand-oriented design of digital tools. Simultaneously, CODIP trains young scientists and is a promoter of research results around digital transformation and barrier-free participation with methods of Open / Citizen Science for the TUD and research partners worldwide.

DST

The Department of Speculative Transformation (DST) bundles TUD's technology-oriented research and development with a human-centered, sustainable, and socially reflective orientation. Based on interdisciplinary research fields in engineering, mathematics and natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences, as well as construction and environment, the DST addresses societal challenges and issues at the intersection of humans, technology, society and the environment. It integrates ethical, social, ecological, legal, economic, and user-specific concerns into innovation and change processes.

CAMS

The Center for Advanced Modeling and Simulation (CAMS) combines the activities in the field of method, theory and software development for computational modeling and numerical simulation in different application areas. Based on research projects of the professorships of Scientific Computing and Applied Mathematics, Fluid Mechanics, Materials Science and Nanotechnology, and Scientific Computing in Systems Biology, CAMS creates an innovative platform for simulations at the highest level.

LICOSS

The Living Labs Computer Science Saxony (LICOSS) are an open, interdisciplinary department designed for interacting with the outside world, researching the cross-sectional fields of Mixed-Reality Systems and Cyber-Physical Systems and demonstrating them to the public in open experimental environments (Living Labs).

Organization of the CIDS

Through the concentration of ICT-oriented methodological research and services, of development and technical expertise, of researchers and lecturers in terms of organization and location, it is possible to collaborate more efficiently, faster and more productively and thus develop even more successful solutions.

The organizational structure of the CIDS consists of 8 departments that conduct research in close cooperation on various focus topics in the field of digitalization. All professorships involved in the CIDS are based at one of the TU Dresden faculties.

In addition to the departments, a number of topic clusters and service units are integrated into the organizational structure of the CIDS as a joint central section, such as the Support Center Digitalization, a transfer center, a "MINT" experience workshop and others.
