Symposium „Engineering Life 2013: Bio-molecular principles for novel methods and materials“ is drawn to a successful close
B CUBE, the Center for Molecular Bioengineering at the Technische Universität Dresden and the Max Bergmann Center of Biomaterials at the Leibniz-Institut für Polymerforschung Dresden were hosting the Symposium 'Engineering Life 2013: Bio-molecular principles for novel methods and materials' September 17 - 18, 2013 in Dresden. The Symposium was bridging the scales: bringing together experts in investigating living structures, starting on a molecular level, with engineers translating the ensuing knowledge into innovative methods, materials and technologies.
During this two day symposium, 17 renowned and international opinion leaders in the fields of BioProspecting, BioNanoTools and BioMimetics were speaking at the conference and discussing poster presentations with the participants. In total, 120 people attended the conference, 30% from outside of Dresden. Scientific talks covered a broad spectrum: bio-inspired functionalization of wood, how a pumelo peel inspired scientists to develop shock-absorbing gradient foams and what we can learn from the construction talent of the spider Argyroneta aquatica, to just name a few examples.
In the future, B CUBE plans to host the symposium ‚Engineering Life‘ on a regular basis, thus establishing a brand mark in the conference landscape for molecular bioengineering.
