Become a teacher at vocational schools
The direct path to a future career as a teacher at vocational schools is to pursue a university degree program in Teacher Training – Vocational Schools. Admission to the program requires a university entrance qualification (HZB). The “Teacher Training – Vocational Schools” program culminates in the First State Examination for Teaching at Vocational Schools, which, in turn, requires—in accordance with LAPO I —vocational training or at least one year of work experience in the chosen vocational subject(s). The degree program is followed by an 18-month, paid preparatory service (teaching internship) with practical pedagogical training, which concludes with the Second State Examination. The degree program has a modular structure and a standard duration of 10 semesters. The Teacher Training – Vocational Schools program generally includes one vocational subject and one general subject, or two vocational subjects, along with educational sciences, supplementary studies, and practical school training (Block Internships A and B, and practical school exercises).
Further information on Teacher Training – Vocational Schools can be found in the SINS study information system . Additional information on university entrance qualifications can be found here under “Admission Requirements.”
