2021- the new funding period starts!
The countdown is on - the new seven-year funding period of the EU will start on January 01, 2021.
With the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) and the new “Next Generation EU” development plan, the European Council has stipulated that around EUR 1.8 trillion (until 2027) should be invested in different European priorities such as research, migration, climate protection, corona crisis and security / defense.
The European funding programs will be expanded, will include new calls for proposals, will have a new budget and will cover future-oriented objectives. Horizon 2020 becomes Horizon Europe, ESF becomes ESF + and other innovations await potential applicants.
But what does this mean for the TU Dresden and for her scientists?
The new funding period offers the TU Dresden a wide range of opportunities to implement innovative projects with the support of European programs for research funding, educational and third-country cooperation and structural funds funding.
The EU funding still needs a certain amount of time before the first applications can be submitted. For Horizon Europe, for example, the two-year work programs must first be defined for the various program areas / clusters.
Furthermore, various federal and state funding opportunities that are financed from the European structural and investment funds (ESIF) will not be available immediately from January 1st, 2021. The EU must first implement the operational programs of the federal and state governments, etc. to the European Regional Development Fund ERDF (Saxony) or the European Social Fund ESF (Saxony).
It is also already foreseeable that some call deadlines - which have been pre-announced - will be postponed (e.g. Horizon Europe - ERC).
Your colleagues at the EPC are already at your disposal for funding advice and can also provide insight into the first drafts of the work programs (for Horizon Europe). Please feel free to contact us!
