5G Lab Germany
The goal of this project is to establish and operate an interstate 5G model region in Lusatia for researching and testing 5G technologies and 5G applications for teleoperated, automated and cooperative construction, travel and flight.
The town of Hoyerswerda in Saxony offers space for developing and testing a concept for digitally connected construction machinery. By adopting a mobile campus network, changing and migrating construction sites will be securely and reliably served by a cellular network throughout the entire construction process and across all stages of construction. These tests should lead to the creation of an exemplary 5G application park, serving both as a paragon and pioneer, advancing structural change in Lusatia, both in economic and social terms.
This will also bring new expertise and opportunities to the region. Conservative industries such as the construction industry, automotive industry and aviation industry are standing on the brink of major changes thanks to digitalization. For this reason, these three industries were selected to establish a central hub in Lusatia, where they can conduct fundamental research based on a 5G infrastructure and the latest research findings from the fields of industrial cloud and communication technologies.
