Conflict counselling and mediation
When people are working together, there is always potential for conflicts to arise. Therefore, conflicts might also arise at some point among (early career) researchers who work together or within a supervision relationship. On the one hand, if conflicts remain unsolved, ignored or dealt with in a destructive way, they might impede academic performance as well as your personal well-being. On the other hand, conflicts offer a chance for positive change and personal growth.
The Graduate Academy supports you in situations of conflict at your workplace here at TU Dresden and/or related to your academic qualification process. Depending on your needs, various forms of support are available under strictly confidential conditions.
Conflict counselling offers you an opportunity to talk to a GA counsellor in order to explore concrete options of how to act in a situation of conflict. First, the course of events as well as the conditions under which a conflict has arisen will be considered. Then, possible solutions, next steps and, if needed, stake holders to be involved in conflict resolution will be identified.
Conflict coaching implies a long-term form of support through a situation of conflict containing up to five individual coaching sessions. The objective of such a coaching process can be: clarifying individual goals and resources, developing coping and conflict solution strategies, preparing for and following up on meetings with other conflict parties.
Conflict mediation offers an opportunity for a joint clarification and conflict resolution process, which is based on the voluntary, open and active participation of all conflict parties involved. The mediator supports this process with an impartial and solution-oriented attitude. The outcome of such a mediation process might be a mediation agreement on concrete measures of conflict resolution signed by all parties.
