Mental Health
In the doctoral and postdoc phase, you not only face scientific challenges. In addition to a sense of academic achievement and the joy of research and teaching, working in academia often means pressure to perform and publish, competition for a small number of positions and limited funding, as well as uncertain career prospects. Therefore, a healthy work-life balance and constructive ways of dealing with stress and strain are crucial for doctoral researchers and postdocs.
Studies have shown that doctoral researchers suffer significantly more frequently from depressive moods and anxiety than the general population (see, e.g., Nature Collection, Levecque et al. 2017). It is, therefore, essential for young researchers to proactively address the issue of mental health and to build up appropriate preventive strategies and habits. The Graduate Academy supports you in this with a series of workshops, counseling, and information events.
If you are already in a crisis, you can confidentially and at any time contact the Psychological Counseling provided by the Occupational Health Service of TU Dresden.
Here, you can also find an overview of the variety of support and counseling services available at TU Dresden for mental health.
