Lecture and panel discussion: Reimagining the Global Majority: New Solidarities in a Changing World
The event Reimagining the Global Majority: New Solidarities in a Changing World offers an inspiring opportunity to rethink current global developments. Led by Aghogho Akpome from the University of Zululand, the lecture will present innovative perspectives on redefining the 'global majority' beyond traditional geographical and historical boundaries. Akpome will highlight significant issues such as the evolution of concepts like 'Third World' and 'Global South' and emphasize the historical significance of the 1955 Bandung Conference, while seeking to offer solutions to contemporary challenges. The event aims to challenge the selective application of human rights discourses and encourage the audience to actively participate in shaping global relations. The lecture will be followed by an exciting panel discussion with various experts, which is intended to encourage people to engage intensively with global politics, postcolonial studies and human rights issues.
All interested individuals are warmly invited and encouraged to explore the possibilities of how global relations can be better shaped rather than remaining "hostage" to existing constructions of the world.
