Candidates and election workers wanted for integration and foreigners' council elections 2019!
Every five years, migrants in Dresden can elect the integration and foreigners' advisory council. This year, the time has come again on 01 September. The advisory board is a body that advises the Lord Mayor and the city council on issues that affect the lives of migrants. Of the 20 members, nine are city councillors, the other eleven are selected through the advisory board election as well as confirmed by the city council. In January 2019, the city council adopted new election regulations. It provides for the election of the advisory council to take place exclusively as a postal vote.
Of the eleven members with a migration background, only two women have been represented in the existing advisory council so far. Thus, the candidature of women is particularly welcome. People from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, India, Eritrea, Somalia or other African countries are also particularly called upon to run for office, as they have not been represented on the advisory board so far. Those who wish to run for office must meet certain requirements and submit an election proposal and various documents to the city administration between 03 and 27 June 2019.
In addition to these candidates, volunteers from the group of eligible voters with a good knowledge of German are still being sought for the election committee. Election workers are also needed to take care of the conduct of the election in the postal voting committee. They, too, must come from the group of eligible voters.
Further information on the possibility, the requirements and the procedure for standing as a candidate as well as on the election process in general can be found at the website of the state capital Dresden.
