Gender Lectures: Bytes and Bias - Digital teaching-learning spaces in focus
Gender Lectures: Byte and Bias
The Gender Lectures in summer semester 2025 came to a successful conclusion and provided a wide range of stimuli. Under the title "Bytes and Bias - Between Gender Sensitization and Gender Stereotyping in Digital Teaching and Learning Spaces", the series of events was dedicated to the critical examination of gender roles and diversity in digital educational settings.
The series was conceived and organized for the first time by the Digital Teaching Team of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences in close cooperation with the Gender Concept Group at TU Dresden. Each semester, the lecture series highlights a specific thematic focus - in this series, the focus was on gender issues in the context of digital teaching. The aim was not only to juxtapose the topics of gender and digital education, but to actively think and shape them together.
Ten interdisciplinary lectures presented a wide range of perspectives, including
- Gender and culturally sensitive foreign language learning with explanatory videos
- Local gaming as access to gender-diverse education
- Ancient images of women in digital discourse
- Queer-inclusive didactics from the perspective of LGBTQIA+ young people
- AI-supported mentoring formats for academic success
- Digital forms of violence such as cyberbullying and revenge porn
- Reflection of gender knowledge in STEM subjects
- Development of a diversity online module for tutors
The response was strong: numerous participants from different subject areas took the opportunity to critically reflect, interact and help shape digital educational spaces. The series impressively demonstrated how central gender-sensitive perspectives are for the future of digital teaching - and how much innovation potential lies in the combination of technology and diversity.
