Transformation East
The fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of the old and new federal states are considered to have been momentous events for Germany and have given rise to a multitude of tensions that are still relevant today. From right-wing extremism to populism, from the liquidation of East German businesses to the current establishment of cutting-edge research, from the citizens' experiences of marginalization to their designation as avant-garde – the lecture series explores a broad spectrum of narratives that define the specifics of these regions. What becomes evident is that even thirty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, there is no uniform reality. Disparities in wages and property ownership continue to exist, as does a lack of representation in politics, the judicial system, and academia. These issues require further discussion and analysis. The lecture series will provide a unique insight into the diverse research on this topic, which is still highly relevant today. Experts from TU Dresden and renowned scholars from various research collaborations will present and discuss their findings. We cordially invite you to an exciting dialog spanning the past, present, and future of German unity.
