Über Forschung reden: Einführung in die Wissenschaftskommunikation von Presseinfo bis PodcastWhat do the media need from me? What do I get out of it? How to build a mutually beneficial relationship with the media
Speaker: Dr. Christina Berndt, Scientific Editor for the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper
When scientists and journalists work together, two worlds based in very different forms of logic collide. This can lead to misunderstandings and conflict. Why do many inquiries require immediate response? Can I refuse them if I want? Why is no one reporting on my groundbreaking research? Am I at the media’s mercy? In her lecture, Dr. Christina Berndt, scientist, author and editor for the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, provides an overview of the work that journalists do as well as how the media works and what constraints it faces. She also extrapolates on what is necessary for fruitful collaboration. What can individual scientists (along with press offices) do to guarantee this success and how can they ensure that their research is depicted adequately?
