Research project on nutrition education for pediatricians and adolescent physicians and cooperating healthcare professionals
BMEL funds study on nutrition education for doctors and healthcare professionals
According to international studies, nutrition education is often neglected in the training and further education of pediatricians and other healthcare professionals. Yet doctors, as well as practice staff, midwives and nurses, are often the first point of contact for parents with questions about healthy eating for their children.
In order to provide adequate advice on nutrition and breastfeeding, they must have the appropriate skills. A three-year research project funded by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture is investigating whether the existing structures in basic, further and advanced training are sufficient for the transfer of skills, whether these skills are available in the professional groups and what improvements are necessary.
