We welcome the new students in the Economics, Technology, and Home Economics / Social Studies (WTH/S) track of the Teacher Training – Middle Schools degree program. Below, we have summarized important information for you regarding getting started and studying WTH/S.

First-Semester Events for Teacher Education Students
First-semester events for teacher education students will begin three weeks before classes start . This winter semester, these include creating your own class schedule with the help of tutors from the Teacher Education Office—both online and in person—campus tours, and the new “How To Study” format, which offers tips and tricks on organizing your studies, using TU Dresden’s online portals, and navigating everyday student life. The WTH/S orientation session for first-semester students will take place on October 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to approximately 12:00 p.m. in room MS1/326/U.
ZIH User Login
All information on setting up your ZIH user login can be found in a letter you received by mail with your enrollment documents and at this link.
You will also need the ZIH user login to access all resources of the ZIH Center for Information Services and High Performance Computing (ZIH). These include
- your personal mailbox and home directory, including storage space
- Internet connectivity via dial-up to the TU campus network (Wi-Fi, option for encrypted access using VPN technologies)
- Use of the ZIH computer labs, the central login servers, the campus network, and the Internet
- Access to the OPAL learning platform, VideoCampus Saxony, and the Selma portal.

Registration for the OPAL course WTH/S Students
OPAL—Online Platform for Academic Teaching and Learning —is the central learning platform for your studies.
Please start by enrolling in the OPAL course “WTH/S Students.”

There, you’ll also have the option to enroll in individual courses.
